Transference technology, sometimes referred to as 'trans tech' is the science of removing a human soul from it's original body and storing it in an artificial container capable of sending and receiving signals and other forms of communication.
The science has evolved from the first discoveries that revealed human souls register as unique and non-repeating natural energy sources. From there, the understanding evolved to explore how to interact with the soul. There were many failed attempts involving telecommunication, thought detection, supernatural research and other promising areas.
A brilliant scientist discovered that the soul could be temporarily removed from it's host body. The initial hope was that this would allow dangerous surgery to be performed while keeping the soul safe. However, once removed from a body, none of the souls survived form more than a few minutes. Without a host to supply natural energy to, the soul would dissipate.
Finally, a device was created that was capable of containing the unique non-repeating natural energy of a soul. The first cyberneural heart was very promising and was engineered to translate energy signals to and from the contained soul. It was not long before these transferred souls were installed into vehicles, equipment and even robots.
The science has come a long way, and after thousands of successful cases, the process is now near-perfect. There are difference in how the process is applied and a few enhancements have been created.
