Forged in an era of wonder, enhanced through the glory of technological exploration, Crystal City stands as a glimmering monument to hope and prosperity for all. Within its shimmering steel walls lies opportunity for most. Yet for a few select others, it is a cage of oppression.
History
Biochemical weapons were employed to remove opposing threats without damaging valuable cities or technology. During this time of geographical harvesting, cities were raided and striped of all expensive or useful working equipment, vehicles, and even mass computer networks. Many cities still stand as empty memorials to an age once lost.
Rebuilding vibrant cities and societies required more than restoring technological components. People wanted to feel safe and secure once again. Peace and protection were paramount and cities were reinforced with aggressive defense systems and life domes that encompassed most of the city.
Structure
Crystal city is divided into zones based on area functions and facilities. Genesis, the caretaker of Crystal City, has established a law on personal vehicles operating within the city. This has reduced traffic and traffic accidents to tolerable levels.
Thanks to tubeways, people can be shuttled across the 100-mile wide city in a matter of minutes. This has provided fast transportation but has forced people to abandon their personal vehicles. Most still own personal vehicles, which they store in city garages and use for transportation outside the city. Public service, police/law enforcement, and construction vehicles still operate within the city. It is possible to obtain special permits for vehicle operation within city limits but valid reason must be given.
The city is comprised of several major old world cities, which have been relocated and reinforced, surrounded and overlaid with a city superstructure. The superstructure is large and is shaped like a long cylinder that extends out from a central point and curves around to cover the outer edge of the city. It’s wide enough to hold two to three levels of city structure less than a half a mile wide. The super structure is practically a city within itself supported about a mile above the old world cities. Along the superstructure, there are power districts. Power districts are collections of buildings, facilities, and residences centralized around a power distribution point.
The city itself stands more as a memorial to the old world than as a working hub. The superstructure holds the majority of living spaces and community management. Still, the city retains a large number of the workforce and daily life continues on the streets. But due to the adoption of profile laws, life can be varied and difficult depending on where you live.
Zone Distribution
Northern Zone - Dominant Profile: Earth Council
Farming, shopping, and down home living are the old world survivors that make up the Northern Zone. A strong focus on people, food, health, and rest and relaxation keeps the Northern Zone a strong attraction to any city dweller.
NorthEast Zone - Dominant Profile: OSI
Focused on science and research, the NorthEast Zone specializes in new technologies and discoveries. Metalface is a primary study and development as well as robotics and Earth studies. There is also a high concentration on new applications of existing sciences and education.
SouthEast Zone - Dominant Profile: Genesis
Just like it’s northern counterpart, the SouthEast Zone specializes in science and technology but in non-land based areas. Oceanography, astronomy, atmospheric sciences, meteorology, and other marine, air, and space sciences are located here. There is an even stronger focus on education here as well as public awareness and outreach.
Southern Zone - Dominant Profile: Baxter
Specifically engineered for import/export of materials, buildings, and technologies, the Southern Zone is a main distribution center for everything other than energy. This used to be the main port that received and reinforced old world cities transferred from all over the world. Now it serves as a large scale connecting point to other cities and offworld colonies.
Western Zone - Dominant Profile: CyTech
With a heavy Tekker population and dense construction facilities, manual labor and construction is the main concentration of the Western Zone. There are also a number of simple production plants and products/services areas in the Western Zone. Hard work and good business are the idols of those who make up the Western Zone.
Central Zone - Dominant Profile: Patrol Force
Administration, power management, city works, and local city government make up the Central Zone. The site of Patrol Force Headquarters as well as Earth Council Western Sector and Crystal City Public Governing Organization, the Central Zone control every aspect of Crystal City.
